Happy Birthday...To My "Inner Molly" & Me!

OK, so it's really 44 candles today......not Sixteen.

Whatever.

It's what's on the inside that counts, right?

And on the inside -- I still sometimes feel like that sorta awkward, shy & insecure high school freshman.....a lot like the one Miss Molly Ringwald played in one of my all-time favorite flicks, Sixteen Candles.

Hmmm.....the fact that I happen to now be married to one of the shy freshman guys that I was friends with way back then -- AND we have a 15-year-old high school daughter -- well, I'm sure that has nothing to do with my fond memories & nostalgia for this movie and that time.

Right.

OK......so HAPPY BIRTHDAY to me.

Look, I think I'm gonna have to order myself a present:

Awesome.

And because I feel like sharing today, take a peek at this slightly worn 24-year-old trailer for Sixteen Candles:

Love, love it!

Hey.....why not take some time today to reminisce and enjoy your own high school memories?

Yep....I think we were all just a little awkward, geeky and insecure back then.

:)

Have a good weekend y'all......

I LOVE This Video! -- "Target Women: Chick Flicks"

Hey there Movie Lovers --

Happy Monday!

Well, if you're a regular reader of this blog (of course you are!) then you're familiar with the very funny Sarah Haskins and the periodic "Target Women" pieces she does for the weekly news parody web show Info Mania on Current TV.

Guess what?

Lucky for us, she's posted a new one and it's right up our movie-lovin' alley!

Sarah takes a few well-deserved digs at the "Chick Flick" genre......and even picks on an upcoming film that I've been looking forward to for about 10 years: The Women.

OK.....so for a fun Monday mornin' chuckle, click below to check out --
"Target Women: Chick Flicks"

(I have a few comments afterward)

Yep, gotta love it.

Two things:

1. If you enjoy Sarah and her Target Women series as much as I do, you can click this link: Sarah Haskins/Target Women and head on over to current tv to watch all of her previous work. I highly recommend the bridezilla/wedding shows piece and the one about marketing yogurt to women. Funny stuff.

2. I must say to Sarah (and all of the other avid Colin Firth fans out there....), unfortunately the handsome & sensitive Mr. Firth is currently off the market......totally taken, happily married.

Hmmm........

At least, that's what his wife's recent red (ooops, I mean blue) carpet attire at the London Mamma Mia premiere would have us believe:

Huh.

Interesting.

Let's look more closely, shall we?

OK....YOU be the judge:

Yep, she certainly looks "HAPPY."

She's totally rockin' that yellow sparkle-sequined shift with the "Have A Nice Day" logo on it.

(I'm somewhat bothered by the unfortunate placement of the eyes, aren't you?)

Well, you know what they say, "A picture is worth a thousand words."

(And the picture of that dress is definitely sayin' somethin'.)

I happen to think it's sayin': "I need to buy a mirror."

But hey, that's just me.

OK, that's all for now Movie Lovers.......

Stay tuned.

A New "Mamma Mia!"....Yes, A Sing-Along Edition Debuts In Theaters Next Week!

Yep......

I guess I'm gonna have to round up some gal-pals and go see it again now.

Yay!

I just read on the USA Today website that a sing-along version of Mamma Mia! is set to be released (for a limited time) in selected theaters nationwide on Friday, August 29th.

Click Here: USA Today-Lifeline Live: "Sing-Along With Meryl"

What a fun idea for the legions of ABBA & Mamma Mia! fans that have shown their loyalty and love for the film version of this musical phenomenon -- to the tune of $320 million worldwide (and counting.....).

Ya know, if you've never been to a sing-along flick before.....I highly recommend it.

I must admit, I count my multiple midnight viewings of the cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show as my first real taste of a sing-along flick experience.

Even though the lyrics weren't flashed upon the big screen -- there we all were at the Graceland Shopping Center Cinema....dressed up, throwin' rice & toast and singin' & dancin' the "Time Warp" like crazy.

Ahhhh.....the memories of my misspent middle school years!

Click Here: Our 70's Hangout -- Graceland Shopping Center -- Clintonville, OH

More recently, I attended a sing-along screening of The Sound of Music.......complete with a rather humorous costume contest.

I seem to recall that a lovely young lass dressed as "Liesl" beat out a somewhat stocky and surly fella dressed as the "Mother Superior".

("Mother" wasn't too thrilled about that.)

I must say, you haven't truly experienced the Von Trapp Family Singers.....until you've joined them in a rousing rendition of "So Long, Farewell."

("Adieu, adieu....to yuh and yuh and yu-uh.")

Ooops.......I digress.

Back to the
"Mamma" at hand.

If you're interested in the
Mamma Mia! sing-along -- selected cities, theaters and times will be posted on the official movie site within the next few days.

Click Here: Mamma Mia -- The Official Movie Site

Even if you don't plan on attending.....you might want to check out the movie website.

It's full of fun and campy visuals
(I would expect no less....) and of course, the wonderful movie music is featured prominently.

So....if you're like me, and just
itchin' to sing-along with Meryl & the Mamma Mia! gang -- make sure to check the official site first, for the theater nearest you.

Oh yeah......and if you happen to attend a screening in central Ohio and hear a somewhat off-key note or two during "SOS" --

Please don't put all the blame on
Brave Mr. Brosnan.

I'm just sayin'........

It's been a looong time since high school choir practice for yours truly.

(Hmmm.....now let's see, where did I put that blue spandex bodysuit?)

OK Movie Lovers......

Stay tuned.

Check Out This Flick: "Man On Wire"

Man on Wire

OK......

It's Monday and I'm in the mood to share.

I just came across the trailer for a movie I had previously heard nothing about:

Man On Wire.

That in itself is not necessarily unique, but this film's subject matter truly is.

I will warn you ahead of time, this flick is a documentary.

Now hold on, don't write it off so quickly (I'm talkin' to my husband and daughter right there). From all that I've read (this morning, by the way), this is a documentary totally worth your time -- and effort.....ya see, ya gotta try to find a theater that is actually showing it.

Click here for the Man On Wire release schedule (dates & theaters)

Here's a little info on the flick, from the Man On Wire website:
On August 7th 1974, a young Frenchman called Philippe Petit stepped out on a wire suspended between New York's twin towers, then the world’s tallest buildings. After an hour dancing on the wire, with no safety net or harness, he was arrested and thrown into an underground prison. Until that moment no one but Petit and his team of accomplices, who had spent months planning their illegal 'coup' (as they referred to it amongst themselves) knew anything about it.

Born out of a dream and an idea, Petit and his team of accomplices spent eight months planning the execution of their 'coup' in the most intricate detail. Like a team of professional bank robbers planning their most ambitious heist, the tasks they faced seemed virtually insurmountable: they would have to find a way to bypass the WTC's security; to smuggle the wire and rigging equipment into the towers; to suspend the wire between the two towers; to secure the wire at the correct tension to withstand the winds and the swaying of the buildings; to rig it secretly by night – all without being caught. Not to mention the walk itself...

Directed by James Marsh (The King, Wisconsin Death Trip), Man on Wire brings Petit's extraordinary adventure to life through the testimony of all the co-conspirators who created the single, beautiful spectacle that became known as "the artistic crime of the century".

OK.......sounds pretty cool to me.

Seriously?

This French guy walked on a tightrope wire between the Twin Towers in broad daylight....and no one saw him set it up? All the equipment, rigs, etc.? This guy is some serious crazy.....and I love it! I'm there, baby....with an extra large popcorn and a regular Coke.

Ya know, I think I vaguely remember this event.....but I was only 10 in 1974, and much more concerned with The Partridge Family, brushing my hair "just right"....and singing along to "Billy, Don't Be A Hero" by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods.

So, this crazy wire-walking event is new to me.....and I am suddenly fascinated by it.

Small confession: As an adult, I've become somewhat "height-aversive" (is that a term?).....so watching parts of this flick is gonna be a challenge, but I really think this is one that must been seen in a theater. Somehow, I think sitting on my couch or lounging in bed, just won't have the same impact.

OK.....so how about watching the trailer below
, and see if you think it looks as interesting as I do:

Hey....writer Christopher Campbell from Cinematical is definitely into this flick, in fact -- I first found out about Man on Wire from reading one of his posts this morning.

Campbell writes:

.....last week I went to see Man on Wire, and I wanted to immediately watch it again. Unlike 12 years ago, however, I don't have so much free time on my hands.

Still, I've been recommending the documentary, which is by far my favorite film of this year so far, to everyone I know (it opens wider this Friday, August 8. Go if you live near any of the cinemas showing it). And more than simply trying to send people to the theater to see it, I want to tag along, too. I'd love to see the look on my non-cinephile friends' faces when they first discover how entertaining it actually is (in theory, a documentary about a tightrope walker doesn't sound all that exciting).

Yep, reading that pretty much sold it for me.

So I found out that Man On Wire opens in a small theater near me on Friday, August 22nd. I'll probably try to attend that weekend (and drag the hub and kids).

I'm thinkin' I may have to bring along some Dramamine as well.

I'll let you know if it makes me any dizzier than usual.

Stay tuned.....
